Strength Development and Reaction Kinetics in Lime-Treated Clays

This study reports on the thermodynamics and kinetics of the cementitious reactions between two pure clay minerals (sodium bentonite and kaolinite) and slaked lime. The optimum moisture content (OMC) for strength development was first investigated for each mineral, through an evaluation of both the proctor compaction curves and the 7-day Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) results.

Thermodynamic and Kinetic Modeling of the Lime–Kaolinite System

A thermodynamic and kinetic model of kaolinite mixed with 5% lime was developed in this study in order to inform the long-term prediction of the system composition and its influence on the geotechnical properties of lime-stabilized clays.

Lambda-PFLOTRAN 1.0: a workflow for incorporating organic matter chemistry informed by ultra high resolution mass spectrometry into biogeochemical modeling

Organic matter (OM) composition plays a central role in microbial respiration of dissolved organic matter and subsequent biogeochemical reactions. Here, a direct connection of organic matter chemistry and thermodynamics to reactive transport simulators has been achieved through the newly developed Lambda-PFLOTRAN workflow tool that succinctly incorporates carbon chemistry data generated from Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FTICR-MS) into reaction networks to simulate organic matter degradation and the resulting biogeochemistry.

Development of a kinetic-thermodynamic model for lime-stabilization of Na-bentonite

This study presents the first kinetic model to predict the solid and pore solution composition of Na-bentonite clay reacting with slaked lime over a period of 720 days.
